A referral from your General Practitioner (GP) is not required to book a consultation. However, a brief summary of your medical history, previous treatments, and any relevant imaging (X-rays, MRIs, etc.) is helpful for an efficient assessment.
Additionally, if you plan to claim consultation fees from medical aid, a referral letter from your GP or referring doctor may be necessary. To ensure a thorough and accurate evaluation, please bring:
Medical records (previous diagnoses, surgical history, and treatment notes)
Imaging scans (X-rays, MRI, CT scans, or ultrasound reports)
A list of current medications
Medical aid/insurance details, if applicable
Identification (ID/passport)
We also recommend bringing a family member or close companion to assist with the decision-making process during your consultation. We are currently contracted only with the Discovery Classic Comprehensive Plan.
If you are covered by another medical aid provider, you may still claim for consultation and treatment costs directly, depending on your planβs reimbursement policies.
If surgery is advised, your surgeon will provide a detailed explanation of:
- The procedure
- Expected outcomes and risks
- Recovery timeline and rehabilitation plan
We will guide you through the pre-operative preparation process and answer any questions you may have. You will also receive comprehensive post-operative care instructions to optimize your recovery.
Hospital stay duration depends on the type of procedure and your recovery progress:
- Minor procedures may be performed, such as outpatient surgery, allowing same-day discharge.
- More complex surgeries (e.g., limb lengthening, bone reconstruction, or infection management) may require a few days to weeks of hospitalization.
Your surgeon will discuss the expected hospital stay based on your treatment plan.
Recovery varies depending on the procedure and individual healing capacity. Generally, the process includes:
- Initial rest and wound care
- Progressive mobility exercises
- Physical therapy to restore function and strength
In some cases, physical therapy may start immediately after surgery, while others may require a delayed rehabilitation approach. Your surgeon will guide you through the best post-operative recovery plan.
